Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic       Kunal Kohli’s fourth film with the Yash Raj Banner does not disappoint. The film is about four orphans and one bitter businessman who have to stay together due to a court order. They are unhappy and God sends his favourite angel to help them come closer and love each other. The film is as predictable as it can get but it still has the freshness that comes through good narration and the performances.   Rani Mukerji plays Geeta , a naughty angel with a Punjabi accent. She has good comic timing and is extremely comfortable with the character.   Saif Ali Khan...

Sarkar Raj , the latest from Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Factory’ can be termed as his comeback vehicle. After the debacle of Aag , Ramu tries to resurrect his position with the Bachchan parivaar starrer sequel to his successful movie, Sarkar . Does he succeed? I would say yes. The movie may not be a master piece but it does not disappoint.   If Sarkar Raj belongs to anyone, it belongs to the director. Ramu does a good job in narrating the story and extracting fine performances from all his actors. The first half starts with a promise but goes in a lull before picking up again before th...

Bollywood has always ignored films for children and barring a flash in the pan like Shekhar Kapur’s ‘ Mr. India’ , film-makers haven’t really focused on this audience. Thankfully, times are changing and I give credit to Rakesh Roshan whose ‘ Koi Mil Gaya’ and ‘ Krrish’ have changed the game by bringing children’s films into the mainstream commercial arena. Also, worth mentioning is Vishal Bhardwaj whose ‘ Makdee’ and ‘ The Blue Umbrella’ were very good but not commercial pot-boilers. This summer, we have a number of big films targeted at children including Harry Baweja’s ‘L...

Tashan means style, attitude… I guess that’s the only thing the film maker kept in mind while making this film. Debutant director, Vijay Krishna Acharya backed by Yash Raj Films has tried to make an uber-cool, slick comic-thriller; however, he forgot the most important thing – the script. Well, that happens quite often these days but the problem with the film is that it is low on its own TQ ( Tashan Quotient ). While Kareena and Akshay increase the TQ, Saif doesn’t add any and Anil takes it down.   Kareena Kapoor plays an innocent small town girl turned con-artist. She i...

What is the most used word in corporate world these days? It is used in interviews, meetings, presentations, over smoke breaks, everywhere. In fact, it is the most exploited word as well. The word has helped a lot of people earn millions, from professors to authors to business consultants, everyone has reaped profits from this word. This powerful ten-letter word is 'Creativity'. Everyone talks about creativity and how important it is, but how many of us truly understand it. We talk about thinking out of the box but who decides what is the size of the box, I mean what are the limits that we nee...

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Yes, it is the title of a song from the film, ‘ Mary Poppins ’; it is a word you can use when you don’t know what to say. And that’s exactly how I felt after I came out of the cinema theatre after watching ‘Khuda Kay Liye – In the Name of God’ . Since, last year I’ve been reading about this film in the papers – it is the winner of the Best Picture Award at the 31 st Cairo International Film Festival, Pakistan’s highest grossing film till date and one of the most controversial too. I was very curious to watch this one and since I had little time thi...
