Agartala, 18 March (Tripura): The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) surrendered to ruling L-F parties and failed to nominate a candidate for Rajya Sabha (RS) election.   It may be noted that L-F parties have fielded a female candidate for the first time in RS election. Jharna Das of CPI-M elected unopposed as the L-F candidate and became the first woman member of RS from the state.   Once again, the basic organizational weakness is exposed, lamented a disgruntled congress supporter. Failure to nominate a candidate for RS poll without any valid reason is nothing but a betrayal with the...

Agartala (Tripura): 2010-02-04: The common language of around 19 ethnic groups of Tripura is known as Kokbarok. The state government recognized Kokbarok as official language in 19th Jan 1979 by the 1 st LF government. However, very next year, the state experienced the worst kind of bloody conflict between the Bengali settlers and ethnic people. Bengalis were forced out of hill and forest areas. This turbulent period, in fact, severely hampered the growth prospect of the ethnic communities. After more than a decade of mistrust, normalcy restored. At present, few extremist organizations have st...

Agartala (Tripura): 2010-02-04: The ruling Left Front is now trying its best to perform better after series of setbacks in West Bengal and Kerala. Their tasks have been made easy by the faction ridden main opposition Congress Party. The Members of Legislative Assembly are openly lobbying against incumbent state unit president Samir Barman and his son Sudip Barman. Taking advantage of a divided and unorganized opposition, CPI-M led LF is leaving no stone unturned to make a strong base in rural Tripura. Allegations of corruption and nepotism against the ruling party are very much common. However...

It noted that the state government declared a 3% DA for the state employees.   It is very much unusual policy, said an agitated teacher.
