Cats understand sign language.  Esply when they are in labour.  Right after dinner yesterday, I heard loud mews right outside my window, and upon looking out, it turned out to be the cat I played midwife to about 6 months ago, and she was looking very pregnant and about to go into labour.  So, I fed her some milk, but that didnt satisfy her and she continued her loud mewing and being restless.  She was trying to get into the lift shaft, and I, terrified that she would die if the lift came down, let her into my apt.  I put an old rag on a door mat and indicated her to sleep there.. and she gues...

I am doing an SSB..and posting a forward. This is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation I have ever read. His references to past history are accurate and clear. Not lengthy, easy to understand, and well worth the read. The author of this email is said to be Dr. Emanuel Tanay, a well-known and well-respected psychiatrist. A German's View on Islam A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. 'V...

Home to the first fully electrified district in the country, Palakkad, Kerala now aims to become the first “fully electrified” state in the country. The state’s minister for power, A K Balan told The Energy Business, “Our aim is to make the state the first fully electrified state.” Said Balan, “Remember, Kerala is one of the states in the country which does not have any non-electrified villages. The state has 141 assembly constituencies and out of which 100 per cent electrification is completed in 26 and in another 80 the work is under way. I am not putting a timeframe for completion of the p...

...will never cease.  Imagine my surprise at being told by an Excise Suptd that he doesnt want a bribe !!  The customs and Central Excise are the most systematic and disciplined when it comes to corruption.  They have a fixed charge for clearing every document which is perfectly in order otherwise.  If you do not pay the bribe the procedure which takes 5 mins may take 5 days or more, if the file never got lost.  I had walked straight into his cabin, even as he was busy with somebody else's work.  He immediately stopped it and asked me what I wanted, which I informed him.  He asked me to wait ...

never having to say you are sorry…   So wrote Eric Segal in his most famous work ‘Love Story’.   It was something of a tear jerker that I had read it twice over.   No idea if he believed this to be true, and I for myself am yet to figure that one out for myself.   The man died yesterday at age 72.   Just got to know that he had also co-written the Beatle number ‘Yellow Submarine”....

Are Aussies having some kind of a homing device to locate hindu Indians ?   They seem to have mastered the art of sifting out the hindu Indians from the Christian, Muslim ones, and even from Pakistani and Bangladeshi’s.   All attacks have been singularly on one set of people.. Purely coincidence ?     Difficult to say.   I sometimes agree with the Aussies when they wail that these attacks aren’t racist.     --------- x --------- At what age do boys really start ?   I was under the impression that its about five.   The elder of my two nephews, at age 5, now 6, had told me that he likes g...

After having found the ultimate cure for homosexuality, Baba Ramdev now has a cure for corruption, YOGA. Can someone find a roll of duct tape and do the honours with Baba R ? He should be observing Maun vrat for the rest of his life instead of poking his nose into such worldly matters me thinks. ...

...and so did the DVD player.  So I decided that it was time for a spin.   Being grounded for 3 days without either of these and the rest of the city preoccupied in celebrating Diwali was too much to take.   On the spur of the moment I check out if there are any tickets available to go to Goa, and it turns out, there is !   I take off on an 18 hr journey… to spend less than 10 hrs in the sun n sand.   I reach there abt 8 in the morn and book myself one of those packaged tours for south Goa, which includes Churches, temples and a couple of beaches given my preference for historic & ancient ...

The assembly elections looks to be going the Congress's way in all three states.  Cong-NCP leading in Maharashtra with the Sena-BJP having conceaded defeat early in the morning today.  In Arunachal its a clean sweep for INC, though Haryana where they were seeking a hands down win turned out a slog.  Wonder why... It was my 11 year old niece who asked me whether it was the 22nd today.. When I asked her why she wanted to know, she said today its election results and she saw some people wearing all whites on the way.  Then I asked her who she wanted to win, and the doll says 'the Congress'.  I am...

There were two gulab jamuns in the fridge last night, of which I ate up one.   Was imagining what eating two could do to my weight, come as it had right after a pork vindaloo.  Do I leave the remaining one for the next day or eat it up ?    Just so that the fridge does not consume more power trying to cool the container meant for a dozen gulab jamuns.  A choice of being healthy or saving power and thus my lil bit for global warming... I am still pondering on the rights and wrongs.. after nearly having eaten up the last remaining one..  ...

The joy of giving week begins Sept 27 to Oct.,3   Its an excellent initiative even though I do not believe that giving should be restricted to a week.   What have all of you planned to give ?   I intend to give my time and support to HelpAge India ...   Three thousand children are reported to be dying every day in India due to malnourishment.   This should not be happening in India , and we need to work hard to stop this.   No child should die for want of nourishment or healthcare..   It’s a collective crime we are answerable for, if we let this happen.   India had set a target for...

This is courtesy Greenpeace India Nestlé’s double standards. Enough to make you sick! Nestlé sells safe food in the rest of the world but thinks it’s okay to push genetically-contaminated products down Indian throats. India’s leading culinary and spiritual chefs have already spoken against GE-tainted food. If Nestlé’s double standards make you sick too, just sign click on this link http://greenpeace.in/safefood/ and clean up Nestlé's act in India....

I woke up one morning.. to hear a cat mewing loudly under my window.   When I opened the window, she looked up at me with big wide eyes, continuing to mew loudly.   I thought she must be hungry, so I fed her some milk.   She took a while to finish it as it was cold, at the end of which she gave a shudder.. gave me the feeling that I had made her catch a cold.   As I had to get ready for office, I had to leave her at that… an hour later, when I was ready to leave, I hear more mews.. and when I went out to investigate.. she was delivering the fourth kitten… didn’t need much help, the cat the...

To PC and PM, the FM... for the radical new Direct Tax code.. as below.  Some nerve this.  Guess this should set the ball rolling.  Just read abt this on rediff andhv copy pasted the table for reference. Rates of income-tax I) In the case of every individual, other than women and senior citizens: (1) Where the total income does not exceed Rs 1,60,000 Nil (2) Where the total income exceeds Rs 1,60,000, but does not exceed Rs 10,00,000 10 per cent of the amount by which the total income exceeds Rs 1,60,000 (3) Where the total income exceeds Rs 10,00,000 but does not exceed Rs 25,00,000 Rs 84,000...

Why is the BJP afraid to do some introspection ?   Revolt by two senior respectable leaders and yet, the BJP is afraid to call a spade a spade. Who are they trying to shield ?   They started off by misunderestimating their opponents, and applying a stock thumb rule that all hindu’s would support their idea of Hinduism. Then they have this temple agenda which more than half of India do not relate with.   Trying to run an American style campaign with the PM candidate declared right in the beginning, which overshadowed other good leaders in the party.   The entire campaign focused on the li...
